Some...if not most of you will remember my previous post this week....HERE....
'Flying Out' of Heathrow this week-end...Sunday, to be sure...and likely to be away for a couple of weeks. We (here at home) think needs of bereft family are better served if I stayed with them for a few extra days after the funeral - next Saturday!
So.....This is my last post on the Blog for a while....until end of month when I hope to be back in circulation here....
Thanks for all your kind comments and good wishes...will pass them on to youngest brother and his family.....
You might glimpse me from a distance......
Meanwhile.....

	Be Good! Take Care!

I can proffer no more pristine symbol of gratitude than this image of an Iceland Rose....

	For...

A dear sister-in-law who passed on to pastures new during the early hours of this morning!
It will not be easy for her husband (my brother) and the children (grown up) to come to terms with the loss of such a Precious Person,, However, we are alll grateful for her release from 2/3 years of struggle against her intractible illness....
Most people who knew her...especially those at the receiving end of her incomparable Nursing Skills..refer to her as....

	An Angel!

Most appropriate approbation!
I shall be flying out this week-end..to be with the family...for a while....

It's Bank Holiday Week-end.....and....as we well know these Isles have a tradition of going to the beach in inclement Bank Holiday weather....Hardy? Silly?

Hopefully, the weather will stay the way it was yesterday...and promises to remain down our way - throughout these Fair Isles....

Absolutely gorgeous yesterday...which enbled me to indulge....
Here are a few from the splendid climes of yesterday...
(Click on the Pics)
*
Cloudless blue skies....as seen by the bumble bee....

*
Looking at this feather from bug's eye level....

*
See the Moss peeping through this feather?

Hope You Enjoy Fine Bank Holiday Weather!

Could not resist this little 'Tease' after I had feasted my eyes on out delightful Camellea this morning. This one keeps 'coming on cue' every year...we even get a second 'show' towards the end of the year....
Hope you get the 'feel' of the pleasure I experienced this morning in bright, balmy sunshine...
(Click on Pics)
*
In Bud....several of them on the shrub....

*
In full Bloom.....difficult to choose which one to share...

*
Could not resist a silhouette against the clear sky....(boosted the colour)

*
And.....a surprise visitor while I was getting close to the bloom....'He' settled neatly at the back of a full bloom....Wasp? Bee?

Camera in hand I spent sometime looking into the delightful sky....'clicking away' at random....
Here are two of the many that materialised.....by chance.
After a dullish morning...much brighter now....Not like the above of yesterday...

Most people will know of my penchant for taking a 'close-up' look at 'things Natural'.... The inclination probably extends to all aspects of Life!
Suffice to say I have a fondness for taking as close a look as possible at the Natural World!
No surprise, then, that I should be drawn to the garden yesterday with the sun shining on Nature's emerging bounty....
Just a few to 'wet your appetite'....
(Click on Pics...)
*
Our prolonged cold spell held back these delicate Dwarf Iris.....Beautiful...
Narcissus....imbibing the delectable sunshine....

On my morning amble, today, I browsed around a nearby neighbourhood, keeping eyes and ears 'on alert' for anything that may present itself for my attention.....
Armed with 'Cammy', of course?
Linking several parallel roads - at random intervals - are passage/alley ways which appear to date back some years...
Several of them have two different sides to them....the one older than the other....quite distinctive.
Have a look....Click on the pics!
**
*

	The thought occurred to me....
"Life is often like these alley ways.....One Passage...Two Sides!!!"

We have the pleasure of our two local grandsons staying for the week-end! Their sister is spending the week-end with the other grandparents.....Dad and Mum have gone 'off' somewhere....A sort of 'break away' before Schools reopen next week....
So....

The 'Grands' are sharing the pleasure of the 'Young Ones'..
These two are with us....
*
Grandma has taken them to one of their 'Favourite Eateries'....
The Big 'M'......

Strange how young lads love the 'Big M'.....

Bet they'll ne hungry again this evening....

	Enjoy Your Week-end!

Thoughts in an advanced state of gestation....
Possible trip abroad end of year....Now exploring Flight Fares, which we all know seem to be rising all the time.
Direct flights are always more expensive...to be sure!
Indirect flights - one or two stops for change of planes or whatever - do take a little longer but can save one a lot of precious money....
We've always travelled 'Direct' from UK to S.Africa....Still our first preference!

	BUT

We're comparing Flight fares for 'Direct/Indirect' flights!
~~ Any suggestions?
~~ Has anyone had experience of Flying with Turkish Airlines?
~~ How about flying with Continental Airlines like, KLM, France, Germany, Italy...or others?

We're open to comments/suggestions etc....

Hope Your Day Is Filled with Sunshine!

Veritable nuisances...even pests...in the eyes and perceptions of some people!
They can be quite an inconvenience - or worse -! Known to be rather aggressive; certainly very assertive and rather intimidating especially when they summon 'Help' from the 'Hoards'.
Strange how they can materialise from 'Nowhere' when threatened OR when spotting prospective Food!
As with all of Nature's Progeny they have their usefulness...to be sure!
Scavengers....who often 'Clean Up' where their human counterparts have 'Messed Up'....
Apart from anything else they DO make for 'Pretty Posers'.....

I Wonder!
Does anyone else out there suffer the frustration of persistent unsolicited adverts through phone calls and E-mails?

I am particularly exasperated by the following:

a) Telephone calls - obviously pre-recorded or computer generated - 'from' : The Tax Office or Some Pension Insurance urgently reminding me of an outstanding 'Bonus/Back Payment' due to me.....
Then 'Calls' advising me that I am due Compensation for injuries sustained in some past (non-existant) accident.

b) E-mails from Banks advising me that my account has been compromised...or that a payment of some specific amount cannot be processed because my Account Details need verification!
Even more 'stupid'....I am being advised by Banks with whom I've never had any dealings, whatsoever!
Exasperating...to say the least!!

Is there any way in which one can avoid/combat these?

	HELP!
Hope You're Having A Good Day!

They're usually on splendid parade around these parts at this time of year....first week in April!
Not so....this year!
Daffodils are out and about...but not in full splendour....even in our small garden.
I can hardly wait to get some pics - ventured out this morning. All seem to be waiting for some consistent sunshine....
Took these this morning....
(Click on the Pics)
*
They do not seem to be as big...or as luscious...thus far.

*
I've always thought this to be 'hypericum'...it is even listed as such on one site...but Hypericum (St John's Wort) is known to be 'golden yellow'....

*
If this is not St John's Wort....Any idea what it is called?

	Enjoy The Spring!

Took this picture this morning.....The same plant in bloom since my last posting images of it - first week in February! CLICK SEE HERE
Even more remarkable....These two have 'spawned' two younger ones which appeared during the last week!
Here they are....

Daily ambles along the seafront have been quite 'testing'....over the past few days. Walking into the teeth of the persistent Easterly Breeze can make one quite 'testy'....
Still....suitably wrapped up one is challenged to stay out for as long as one feels brave....
Despite the 'Biting Breeze', there is always something worth 'capturing on Camera'...
Using my zoom, I was able to 'get' the following images of a Black-headed seagull....
(Click on the Pics)
*
Caught this one one the water edge...

*
Soon afterwards...still zooming...I caught this image...cropped it for emphasis...

*
Bit milder today....
Be venturing out soon...suitably clothed...to be sure!

Now awaiting the arrival of our Grandchildren....with their parents, of course! They'll be away next week-end with the other grandparents...so....TODAY we have them for an Early Easter Dinner!
I've just taken pictures of the Main Course....which will be served with the customary Roast Potatoes and vegetbles...
As a small token of my awareness that
SPRING IS SPRUNG

I offer the following taken yesterday....
Despite the dull, showery weather over the week-end we determined to 'get in' our daily 'walk'! Got caught a couple of times by light showers...Still, we persevered for our own good!
Yesterday's amble took us through an older part of town which we had not explored before!
We discovered some interesting streets and places - easily bypassed - about which we had heard but not visited....
On a previous amble around Town, I had taken some pics of another very well-preserved row of houses/cottages which, at some time in the past had housed some well-known people!
In contrast, I came across another truly delightful image yesterday....in circumstances so different...no less charming!
Have a look at these....
Click on the Pics!
*
In one of these lived a celebrated British Playwright...
*

*

*
The gable of a House/Repair shop in another Old part of Town...

*

I plan to visit the second place again. Fascinated by the 'Little Shop'.
May You have a Charming Week!

Our weather may be playing 'Ducks and Drakes' with our Seasons - if not with our patience - but some aspects of Nature remain consistent!
Not least.....the Need for Food and Drink!
Despite the dreariness of the weather, my morning was 'Lit Up' when I looked out at our kitchen window and saw our resident 'Master Acrobat' feasting on the goodies in the 'Bird Feeders'....
For your Entertainment.....Click on the Pics!
*
Without Acrobatics.....
	Have a Good Week-end!

These should come as no surprise Predicted/forecast over the past week-end, we were expecting something...but nothing like this.
Most beautiful, though; despite the obvious inconvenience to so many travellers...and delight of children - getting a day off from school...
I had to get out for an appointment with my Dr...just a regular check-up....so I got out my 'Wellies' and my snow jacket et al...and had a most delightful amble to the surgery! Great fun!
Took these pics this morning.....and very recently!
Notice the conrast of a few hours....
(Click on the Pics)
*
Taken this morning around 08.00 hrs....
Our Garden....

I suspect many of us make the occasional journey down Memory Lane to re-visit 'Old Pleasures'!
The experience can be most refreshing...even salutary.
As one gets older such visits can be occasions for much 'joy'...even if only in one's 'Inner Self'.
However, one could re-visit such pleasures in reality...such as I was minded to do yesterday afternoon!
Perhaps I was moved to the thought by the book I've been reading....set in the way distant past.
On impulse I felt like 'kneading bread' by hand! The way my Mother did years ago....
Not to bake bread...BUT...to 'fry little breadcakes in the pan' - Yummy!
One eats them with all sorts of fillings.....
I did just that...and we had ours for 'Supper' last night....with cheese etc...
Another batch of dough done this morning.....Will have them with a 'Savoury Meaty Mince' tonight!

	Yummy for Supper!!!

Any thoughts triggered in your minds?

	Enjoy Your Week-end!

First saw it a few days ago from our kitchen door....looking towards the East! Instantly 'grabbed' my attention......
Certainly had me fooled for a moment....Most likely misled some others as well!
Ambled in its direction this morning for a closer look.....
Brought back memories for me....
Have a look....
(Click on the Pics)
First sight of it....
Over the week-end we were 'out and about' as usual....Always 'open' to what may present itself to our 'senses'....
So important to have 'Notebook' or 'Camera' to hand....
Some sights or images defy description.......
Like these....

Surprises come when least expected!!!
Indeed!
Thus, on Thursday afternoon/evening neither the weather nor a look around our garden gave a hint of what the following day had in store for us!
Rather dull...cold...weather...and colourless in the garden, we cheerfully followed the usual 'tenor' of our day....vaguely aware of the pending month of March....
The following images....speak for themselves and for the surprises brought to us with the rebirth of March.....
(Click on the Pics).
*
First to catch the eye when we opened the back door....
None of these was there the previous evening..

*

*
On a bright morning....my heart sang!
Having refilled the bird feeders....I stepped back....
My heart leapt for joy when I was surprised by one of these...

	A Song Thrush....

*
Alas! Its sojourn was too brief for me to take a pic....this 'take' is an earlier one!

A Most Satisfying St David's Day!

May You Have A Good Week-end!

Back at home again...after a most rewarding - as always - time away among the Brethren in the Monastery!
The weather was not salubrious for getting out and about very much, though my daily ambles were bracing...refreshing...and most healthy - suitably wrapped up against the 'parky' Yorkshire climes!
The skies remained dull, dreary...et al...but for a very brief spell of sunshine lasting for about an hour in all of the seven days I was there.... One might well say, typical 'Tyke Weather'..yet, even such weather has its charms...
It was good to see and speak with old friends....some of them 'getting on' in years. We were very aware of the recent death of one fo the Brethren whom I have known since 1967.....
Plenty time - space - for reflection and meditation....So essential for personal well-being!
I always relish joining in with the daily rhythm of their lives...from....06.00 until the Night Office of Compline after which the entire Monastery rests in complete silence.....
I'm easing my way back into Blogland....
Not too many Spring Blossoms in evidence....
A few are making their appearance...
Like these....
*

*

Enjoy the rest of your Day....

Many of you may...or may not remember that I usually go on 'Retreat' about this time each year. I go to spend a week in/with a Religious Community with which I have had a close relationship for almost fifty years.
Many of my older 'friends'....Brothers in the Community... have passed away....the latest departure, someone I've known since 1966. He died last month....aged 95 years!
This year's visit there will be especially poignant for me.....

	BUT

The underlying philosophy of the Community accepts 'Death' as an integral part of 'Life'...
I always look forward to sharing in their 'Lifestyle'....They are kind to permit me to enter freely into the rhythm of their lives....
Thus....I shall be away from tomorrow morning until next week Wednesday....

I shall be thinking of you all...during this week....

	Take Care!

Indeed! No doubt their cousins have been out and about elsewhere...They've been eager to unfurl for the past few days.....
Yesterday they began to emerge!!!! Sunshine, today, set the perfect scene for their appearance....
Here are my first 'takes' of 'Season 2013'.....
To be sure, there will be many more appearances...of them and their ilk....
Hopefullly, the weather will not cause much of a problem for 'Pancake Races' today...if ever it can?

Not the most salubrious of weather this week-end... Bit cold...and somewhat 'damp'...No snow down our way....
Still time for short walks....
Plenty to 'see' in and around the house....
The following images are of a very familiar subject in every home...
Taken as close-up as I could....only 'tweaking': boosting existing colour, enhancing contrast, sharpening and cropping....
I'm sure you'll recognise what it is....
