Thunderstorm...S.Africa..5
**

To conclude the apparent co-incidence, track back to South Africa, a couple of years back, traveling across the endlessly flat land of the Free State.
The thick, yellowish grey 'wall' approached relentlessly from ahead of us – wife still driving; a farm lorry passed us on the wide, smooth open road...No need to panic! We had pervious experience of driving through very heavy rain. Yet, both of us shared our rising apprehension; there was something eerie about the 'wall' approaching...quite quickly, though not visibly so.
Usually one meets some light rain before a deluge.....NOT THIS ONE!
Without any warning drops at all, we crashed into what seemed to be a wall! Car to a complete standstill....first thought we had landed in a sudden 'ditch' in the road. Both sat stunned for a couple of minutes. A deluge came down – don't know how long it was, but we regained degree of composure when we realised that the car was still on the road, engine switched off....and the deluge abating almost as quickly as it had hit us....Skies lightened ahead of us; rain dissipated! Behind us, receding fast, almost ghost-like, was the 'dark wall'.
Wife started up the car and we continued, not as though nothing had happened, wondering about the experience. The skies soon cleared significantly and it was not that long before the surrounding countryside seemed none the worse for the passing of some 'Natural phenomenon'......
When we arrived at our destination some time later...and some 300 miles hence...we learnt that part of the Town had been flooded...the large Hospital had had to be evacuated....A Freak Storm!
Ours had been quite a 'freaky' experience.!
